From the cutting edge of club culture right through to high falutin’ events at esteemed cultural institutions, African music is very much on the radar right now. As a perfect example, this event at the Barbican aims to explore the influence of African music and culture on artists and scenes from around the world, and vice versa, and pulls together a stellar line-up including Gilberto Gil, Macy Gray, Roots Manuva, Hugh Masekela, Femi Kuti, Marcelo D2 and many more for a three day festival including talks, debates, exhibitions, drumming displays and workshops. “I go shout plenty”, as Fela Kuti might say.
